WORD-OF-MOUTH
| Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) |
| Are there any fees associated with using Word-of-Mouth? No. Asking for fees would only keep Word-of-Mouth from fulfilling its primary mission. What is your "primary mission"? To open up the job market by providing a place for designers and engineers to trade job tips. The present system of newspaper ads, headhunters and even structured employment databases doesn't reach the target audience very well. Why did you set up Word-of-Mouth? We field unsolicited job and contract opportunities all the time -- why not pass them along? In fact, why not make it possible for anyone to pass this sort of information along? Why do you let agencies (headhunters) post to Word-of-Mouth? We're not interested in becoming message board cops. Obviously it is better if companies post their own jobs directly. Perhaps, after a while, the agencies will realize that there are too many unfiltered jobs here to compete. In other words, they will figure it out for themselves and stay away. If it gets out of hand, though, we will ban them. It really is not "word-of-mouth" if an HR department posts a job here... Yes. That is absolutely true. The hope I have, though, is that the "rank and file" will feel empowered to post genuine word-of-mouth tips based on what is going on their groups. That is the whole point of being here, and what I wish to encourage the most. Aren't companies a bit touchy about employees doing recruiting? If so, they are only hurting themselves. After all, what better endorsement is there than an employee telling the whole world that he or she just heard about a great job opportunity at the company? Also, considering how many firms offer referral bonuses, it shouldn't be a problem in most companies -- and if it is, then perhaps we don't need to hear about those jobs anyway. Word-of-Mouth is sponsored by a service bureau. Isn't there some sort of conflicting interest here? Sure. But not much. Word-of-Mouth and EDAnet.com are supported by Design Network Associates, Inc. (DNA) of Ashland, MA. There is no secret about this. Certainly, there is a potential benefit to us -- but no more than to anyone else. Besides, we only serve the Eastern Massachusetts economy. Word-of-Mouth is open to the whole world. Do you allow your competitors to post jobs here? The advantages of an open market far outweigh any local competitive issues, and for this reason, I am not going to decide who (or who is not) allowed to post here -- so long as they are on-topic. Anyone wishing to post about a job or other work opportunity, or anyone who is personally available for work is welcome to post here -- including potential competitors. That is the only limitation. Are you planning more categories for Word-of-Mouth? Good ideas have a way of taking on a life of their own. The message board format is certainly scaleable enough to add new categories. But for now, there are no immediate plans for expansion. We'll see how this initial experiment works out first.
